If I could give a 4.5 star review... I stumbled across this restaurant during lunch hours it's literally in the cut if not paying attention you would miss it. When I walked in a host greeted me and also served me. He was extremely polite, attentive & gave great customer service. As a first time customer, I was highly appreciative of his patience as I asked serval questions about the menu. If you have a shellfish or seafood allergy, stay away from the fried foods & the yams. Yes , I said it the yams they deep fry them before pouring the sauce to marinate. The cooking oil used is cross contaminated, because they fry both seafood , chicken and any other fried items on the menu in it. Which I was bummed, however the vegetables plate was recommended to me. If you're from the south & rural areas you know we love a good vinegar based collard greens. The only thing I will point out the place onions & tomatoes in them. Not bad at all, don't knock until you try it! Then I took a walk on the wild side & order the black-eye peas which are slow cooked & not pork or other meats were placed inside. However they were extremely flavorful & well cooked. Last but not least for the sides red beans & rice quite delicious. It comes with a mini loaf of cornbread & it was hot! It melted in my mouth with butter. The cornmeal & all that cornbread was homemade. Thank you !!! The restaurant reminded me of mom & pop shop , placed in Uptown Charlotte tucked away. The service was face & they take several forms of payments . Will recommend this place to others. I'm sad I couldn't try the chicken po'boy it looked good & that fried fish smelled amazing ! I will be back again in the near future.
Service was attentive and prompt, all staff was pleasant and appeared to have good morale. Food did not disappoint. Came out fast, fresh and hot. Very tasty , not overly done/seasoned, had great solid classic flavors.
Great soul food, always flavorful & hot (Ive only been twice, but has been great both times). Family friendly restaurants with loads of playbills and posters on the wall, good family atmosphere. Service is always great and friendly as well.
Birthday trip '23. There is nothing like soul food! It was like stepping into your aunty's kitchen; from the aroma to the décor everything felt so welcoming. For starters, I ordered the sweet tea and the soul rolls. When I tell y'all heaven? The soul rolls are two egg roll wraps with black-eyed peas, seasoned rice, collard greens, and diced chicken breast. Served with spicy honey mustard sauce. For the entrée I ordered the Low Country combos: BBQ Ribs and Catfish and for my sides I got mac & cheese and cabbage. That also came with cornbread. Everything was cooked to perfection. The portions are so generous I ended packing the rest to go.
Nothing better than to find a local restaurant that has a great menu with even better flavor. Must have: Cornbread Soul Roll Red Beans and Rice Black Eyed Peas One of my all time favorite spots. But but...gotta come at the right time. It gets packed.
